Healing Our Covenant of Blessing Part 1

Healing In The Word, a Torah Perspective Part 1
From my Book Our Covenant of Healing

Rabbin/Dr. Deborah Brandt Ph.D.

As a Congregation leader our heart is to see God’s people walk in the fullness of His blessings.  One of those blessings is that of health and healing.  It is a promise to Israel in both the Tenach and Brit Hadasha.

One of the prayers we pray in the Shemon Esrie Amidah is for Healing.

Heal us, O L-rd, and we shall be healed, save us and we shall be saved, for Thou art our glory.  Send complete healing for our every illness, for Thou, Divine King, art the faithful, merciful Physician.  Blessed art Thou, L-rd, who heals the sick of His people Israel.

The promises  of  healing is found in the Tenach  and  in the Brit HaDasha Yeshua confirms that it was Gods will that His people be made whole and He healed them!     God is the same, yesterday, today and forever, He never changes and His will never changes because His will is His Word from B’resheet to Revelation.

It is important that you study these verses in context, but you will see as we study what the Word says about healing and that Yahweh is our healer. Health and restoration are always associated with God’s blessings. Sickness and disease is not Yahweh’s will for us health and restoration brings glory to God.  Yeshua said that ha Satan comes to steal, kill and destroy but He came that we may have life more abundantly.   But don’t take my word for it TAKE HIS WORD!

As we see what the Word says, let emunah/trust arise in your heart for healing, because you have been redeemed by the blood of Yeshua and healing belongs to the redeemed of Adonai, His people Israel.

Whenever God’s people repented and walked in obedience to His Word healing came in every area of Israel’s life.  Sin, rebellion and disobedience opened the door for judgment and sickness to come in, but when Israel repented, healing and restoration returned.

If you are In Messiah  then you have been grafted into the Covenants of Israel along with the blessings.  Healing has always been a provision for His people Israel when they were obedient to walk in His ways and looked to Him for their healing and deliverance.

Gods  word  is true and this issue of healing must be settled in each persons heart individually.  Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the  Word of God.   Healing is in the Torah and is for His people Israel.

There are 4 areas of healing that can apply to our lives- Relational which starts first with your relationship with God if it has been broken because of sin and rebellion,  repentance must come first, then when your relationship is right with God the healing process begins.  If our relationship with God isn’t right then our relationships with our brothers and sister in Messiah will not be right and will need healing as well.  Also, when there is national repentance, then healing comes to a nation.  When our relationships are in divine order then comes physical healing and emotional healing come as a result of repentance/Teshuvah and returning to His ways and His truth which is found in Messiah Yeshua follow as well.

God's word is true and if we do not immediately see results for healing, we need to trust God and realize that healing is a process.  We also need to search our own hearts to see if there are any hindrances in our life that are blocking the healing process such as unforgiveness and bitter root judgments, evil speaking aka: Lashon Hara.

People love to use Job as an example of not receiving healing, but it is plain from the text that God allowed the enemy to afflict him, however in the end Job received restoration in all areas of his life.

Also people try to give examples in the Bible where people were not healed, such as Timothy who Paul advised to take a little wine for his stomach.  However just because it was not recorded he was healed, doesn't mean he wasn't.  God's Word tells us what we need to know, He does not always give us all the details!

Do not allow anyone to rob you of your faith and trust in God for healing by there words of doubt and unbelief.  I know it is a battle, because the enemy is always whispering in your ear that you are not going to be healed, and he is a liar.  Your healing is between you and God and just because someone was not healed does not mean it wasn't His will to heal them, again that is between that person and God. If they are a believer and do go to be with The Father, then that is the ultimate healing and victory.  What means God uses to heal you, whether it be via a Doctor or medicine or miraculously, ultimately He brought the healing in your life.

God's Word is true whether healing manifests in our lives or not.  We need to exam our own heart and go to God in prayer and ask Him to reveal what the hindrance's are and He will show you.

See my blogs "When Cancer comes knocking at your Door" regarding my husbands diagnosis and how we are standing on the Word.  We already have received a good report that he is doing better and that the treatments are working, however we know ultimately that it is God who is bringing healing to his body.

In the Torah God made a Covenant of Healing with Israel and all those who desired or chose to come under the covenant of God as given to Moses.

26 And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.
  Ex 15:26 (KJV)

24 Thou shalt not bow down to their gods, nor serve them, nor do after their works: but thou shalt utterly overthrow them, and quite break down their images.
25 And ye shall serve the LORD your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee.
  Ex 23:24-25 (KJV)

This Covenant was in 2 parts

            1. Commands

A.     Diligently hearken to God’s voice (Exodus 15:26, Leviticus26:14-15
B.     Do that which is right in His sight
C.     Keep all His statutes
D.     Serve the Lord

            2. Promises

A.     I will put none of theses diseases upon thee
      B.     I am the Lord that healeth thee
   C.     I will take away sickness from the midst of thee

This Brit/covenant of healing was also made a part of the Brit HaDasha/New Covenant, for Messiah “Took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses”

4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
  Isaiah 53:4-5 (KJV)

16 When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick:
17 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.
  Matt 8:16-17 (KJV)

24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
  1 Peter 2:24 (KJV)

The Universal state of health in the nation of Israel continued as long as God’s conditions were met.

God wants His people well so we can complete what He has called us to do and Proclaim the Besorah/Gospel of Messiah Yeshua and make Talmidim for HIs Kingdom !

When Cancer Comes Knocking on your door - Our Faith

When Cancer Comes Knocking on your door - Our Faith

Spiritual Family Support, and Natural Family Support is Important!

Psa 23:1  A Psalm of David. The LORD is my Shepherd [to feed, to guide and to shield me], [Eze. 34:11-31] I shall not want.
Psa 23:2  He lets me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still and quiet waters. [Rev. 7:17]
Psa 23:3  He refreshes and restores my soul (life); He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake.
Psa 23:4  Even though I walk through the [sunless] valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod [to protect] and Your staff [to guide], they comfort and console me.
Psa 23:5  You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You have anointed and refreshed my head with oil; My cup overflows.

Psa 23:6  Surely goodness and mercy and unfailing love shall follow me all the days of my life, And I shall dwell forever [throughout all my days] in the house and in the presence of the LORD. Amplified Bible

Note:  vs 4 says it is the shadow of death....When we walk through this shadow we do not have to fear because it is only a shadow, he has promised to bring us through it and give us comfort as we are walking through the shadow.

This isn't the first time my husband has looked death in the face.  When he was in his 20's (before we met) he had a motorcycle accident via a hit and run driver and had severe brain trauma and was in a Coma for over 3 weeks but by God's grace (he was not serving God at that time) he lived but because of head injury has a seizure disorder which prevents him from driving a car for the safety of others and himself.  There are many other side effects to brain trauma, but through prayer many things have been overcome.

While he was in collage he suffered a ruptured appendix and lost 1/3 of his small intestines due to infection, but again lived through the experience.

So we know God had a plan and purpose for his life even before he came to know Yeshua/Jesus as His Redeemer and this is another opportunity to use this to bring glory to Him.   Sickness does not glorify God, He did not put cancer in Scott, but He is the one who bring healing to his body.

In time of crisis the first one we need to look to is Our Heavenly Father and His Word.  We do not fear death because death is just a continuation of life when you know Yeshua/Jesus as your Redeemer and Savior.  However we stand on Psalm 91 and that we will finish the race He has set out for us to run for His Kingdom and His Glory.

We are not ready to give up the fight because we know we  still have a job to finish with our time allotted here on earth and the enemy, death is not going to take us before our time.

Our hope is in His Word and His faithfulness.

When we keep our eyes on the Word we are filled with His peace when we get our eyes off the Word that is when we will become weak.

We are grateful for family and friends and for the prayers that we feel daily.  The hardest thing for me to do was to ask for help, I am use to giving the help not asking for it.  It is a very humbling experience.

We have several friends, one a Rabbi friend of ours whose wife is a breast cancer survivor and  a friend from our Congregation who also has experienced a battle with cancer and who has  been a great support and encouragement to Scott and myself.

The reason for the bladder cancer was because my husband was a smoker for many years and even when he became a believer it was still hard for him to kick the habit but eventually he did.  However, we were surprised to hear from the doctor that the main cause of bladder cancer was smoking!  We knew smoking caused lung cancer, heart disease, breathing issues but never knew it affected the bladder as well.

As other cancer survivors have shared with us, it is just as hard on the spouse and family when a loved one is going through the pain and suffering.

If only our doctors were trained to combine faith with their medical treatment instead of looking at us like we are from Mars when we state we are looking to God for healing.  We know God uses doctors and medicine but they do not have the last say so - God does!!

When we start feeling overwhelmed we feel His peace/Shalom within us and we know we have people holding us up in prayer and the Father lovingly watching over us.

Just the other day Scott had to go through another surgery and Chemo.  I was in the room with him as he was waiting to be prepared for surgery, and we were laughing and joking with each other when the doctor who was doing the surgery walked in.   He started laughing as well, we told him laughter is good medicine, he just smiled!   We can laugh because we know that God's Word is true  and if He brought us to this crisis He will bring us through it so we can encourage others as well and give glory to God.

The battle was won 2 thousand years ago when Yeshua paid the price for our sins.  Read Isaiah 53 and Psalm 103 these words are fulfilled in Him.

Here is one of my favorite songs and if you are going through a test or trial read Psalm 34 and listen to this song.  Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir - Psalm 34

When Cancer Comes Knocking On Your Door

When Cancer Comes Knocking on Your Door!

None of us expects to hear the "C" word from our doctor, however a few months ago my husband experienced a UT Infection that would not go away or respond to antibiotics of any kind.  His doctor ordered a C/T Scan and found a Tumor in his Bladder, other tests revealed it to be a Cancerous A Type Tumor.

He had surgery to remove the Tumor, however he has to have another surgery because they need to get muscle tissue samples to make sure it is confined to the bladder and has not spread outside to other parts of his body.

As a Messianic/Christian believer who teaches and believes in Divine healing, this became a test of whether we would stand on the Word or cave into doom and gloom. Needless to say it was a No Brainer, the Word is true and we are standing on His Word , no matter what the diagnosis is for total healing in Yeshua's Name.

We went through the emotional cycle of fear, tears, worry and the what "If's".  Also the thoughts of the  enormous financial cost of treatment!  But mainly the realization of loosing someone you love and the awful possibility of them no longer being by your side.  All these thoughts came flooding through our minds and even out of our mouths, however we always ended it with, God is our Healer, Provider and Deliverer. we will trust Him no matter what. Let God be true and the circumstances a lie.

As an Ordained Rabbi and my husband who is an Ordained Minister we are practicing what we Teach and Preach.   God is our Healer!   The only way to victory is via prayer and The Word.  We even told the doctor that we are trusting God and that we will do what needs to be done, but ultimately the victory is our trust in His Word.

I will be blogging about our journey in the hopes of encouraging others who are facing life threatening illness, along with encouragement in the Word to bring us through this test.

I would like to recommend some books that have been a help to us:
